The county seat of Yavapai County, Prescott AZ has a population of 39,843 as of the 2010 Census. It is in the Granite Creek watershed and contains the conjoinment of Miller Creek and Granite Creek on its north side, historically providing the area with plentiful water. The city served as the capital of the Arizona Territory from 1861 to 1867, when the area had political prominence. The capital was moved to Tuscon, then was returned back to it in 1877, and then finally the capital was moved to Phoenix in 1889. Prescott was home to famous Western figures Virgil Earp (brother of Wyatt Earp) and Doc Holliday.
Reflecting the importance of the town’s history, many Victorian style homes, with 809 different buildings in Prescott being on the National Register of Historic Places.
